Who else thinks trading Thomas would be a huge mistake?
I’m a huge Boston Bruins fan, and I think if they got rid of Tim Thomas, they’d be making a huge mistake. They’re putting way to much pressure on Rask, and even though I like Rask, goalie is a two-timed job – Tuukka and Timmy. Thomas won a Vezna, and just because he’s old doesn’t mean anything. He’s still a very unpredictable goalie, while Tuukka does the same things over and over. Personally, if I was on the ice, I’d be more afraid of Thomas than Rask. Tuukka’s still very young, and I think after what happened in the Philadelphia series, Tuukka’s going to have a mental breakdown. I’m still upset over it, imagine how he feels? I don’t blame Tuukka for the loss, I just think they should’ve pulled him after they were leading 3-0. If Thomas was in the net, they would’ve pulled him after 2 goals. Tuukka let in 4, and they kept him in. Sorry if this is all over the place, but does anyone else agree? Disagree?
i clearly said i didn’t blame tuukka for the philadelphia series loss..
Well, I’m split on this.
WHY WE SHOULD KEEP TIMMY:
Thomas is a veteran leader and a very good goalie. He is a good starter and a good back-up. He is very competitive and I think if he stays a Bruin he will compete with Tuukka for the number one spot.
I have nothing against Rask and I think he has proven himself but that was his rookie season. So I’m still undicided fully relying on Tuukka.
The thing is, Timmy doesn’t want to leave. HE HAS A NO-TRADE CLAUSE. Pretty much everyone knows that but I think people are forgetting it. He wants to stay here so we can’t be going around and trade him to any of the 30 teams in the NHL. Thomas chooses. Thomas decides. Thomas leaves. Trading Timmy may not be as simple as it seems.
WHY WE SHOULD TRADE TIMMY:
He has a terrible 5-year cap hit of $5 Mill. which is way too much for a back-up goaltender (if he is a back-up.) He is getting older and his Vezina days might be over.
About the Philly series…
I think Tuukka was exceptional in the Philly series. I disagree, he is not a unpredictable goalie and I think he has proved himself. He carried this team to the playoffs. I don’t think he’s going to have a mental breakdown. The longer he stays in the NHL the more he grows as a player, he gets less nervous (if he was nervous at all).
In conclusion…
I’m undicided…
If you trade Timmy you lose a veteran. If you keep him, you spent too much on a back-up goalie.
